Post subject: Design Goal - Psionics for Pathfinder
Posted: Wed Sep 16, 2009 06:54 PM
So, now that things have started really going for the Pathfinder Psionics project, I wanted to touch on a few things that have been talked about, but put it in its own sticky thread so folks can understand where we're coming from when it comes to the design goals of this project.
There are 3 basic design goals
1. Make the psionic ruleset fit the Pathfinder RPG paradigm
2. Keep the new psionic ruleset backwards compatible (kind of a subset of 1, since Pathfinder's goal was to stay backwards compatible)
3. Correct some of the mechanical problems in the 3.5 psionics rules - metamorphosis, psicrystal rules clarifications, base soulknife typically being underpowered, etc.
Outside of these basic goals, we have a few advanced goals:
Innovate where appropriate - class builds, new feats to support class redesign for Design Goal #1, etc
Make the flavor aspect of psionics more mutable - this is something akin to High Psionics: Power Sources, but applied to the whole system.
Add new content where appropriate - the Ophiduan race being introduced as a "core" psionic race is an example of this
Get a printed version of the Psionics Rules available again!
This project should be seen as more of tweaking the current ruleset to fit into the Pathfinder paradigm, rather than as a way to overhaul the psionics system. Many parts of the system work just fine as-is - if it ain't broke, don't fix it, right?
