We are proud to present a new line of products, called the Path of War, introducing martial classes and disciplines once popularized by the Tome of Battle: Book of Nine Swords.

The Path of War will take our dedication to balance and functionality that has graced Psionics Unleashed, Psionics Expanded and Ultimate Psionics and apply that to one of the most loved and controversial systems from the Dungeons & Dragons-era.

Chris Bennet has been brought in as Lead Designer for this ambitious project which will go into Alpha Playtesting as soon as possible. We believe in the spirit Paizo set fort when it playtested the Pathfinder Rules and we followed in their footsteps with everything we have produced since.

We look forward to your thoughts and ideas and hope that the Path of War will introduce you to new and interesting mechanics for your Pathfinder game. Naturally, there will be some new psionic material in these releases as we strive towards material that supports eachother.

Omg I love Tome of Battle! Pathfinderized SwordSage please!
It was always a little clunky feeling with maneuvers written on notecards...I'm sure you guys can smooth it out!

Will it involve autohypnosis and psionic focus? Or be a stand alone maneuver based combat book?

Not sure my wallet can handle it.

Also, reposted on the Giant in the Playground forum for visibility.

Nope!

We're keeping our Kickstarters to a minimum.

The next Kickstarter we're likely to do would be for Third Dawn (end of the year / early 2014, so consider yourself warned).

And for my actual thoughts on the subject:

I'm excited to see this come together. I'm also excited that I don't have to handle the development of it. Wink My plate is so full, but I definitely love seeing new projects come together.

Between this and Third Dawn (and maybe some more of the AP??????? *hint hint?*), it looks like DSP's 2014 is shaping up to be another stellar year. Its good seeing you guys succeed and continue cementing yourselves as one of the top tier 3PP for Pathfinder.

The third adventure in the AP has been written, has had the maps done, the cover is done... it looks like I might need to do a few interior graphics, but not much... it's stalled out in the editing phase. I've done two edits of it and have a bunch of notes on it, but I need to actually implement my noted changes, and then send it off for layout.

It's just unfortunately waiting on me to have the time to complete that.

Hello everyone!

My name is Chris Bennett (maybe better known to some as ErrantX). I'm new to the publishing business, but I've been an avid fan of gaming since I learned how read the old 1st and 2nd edition books that a friend's brother had stored in his closet. Gaming, and subsequently writing material for games, is in my blood and the Path of War is my offering back to the communities and games that have been an amazing and fun part of my life. The initial buzz of excitement over the prospect is thrilling to see, and when I started the project a few years ago in the homebrew forums of another popular game designer's site, I never thought I'd see it come this far. It's going to be a wild ride, and I'm so excited that Dreamscarred Press is giving me the opportunity to bring all of this to you! (and give Jeremy a well-deserved break!)

When the playtest releases come out, please let us know what feedback you have for the products as they come out and I will strive to bring to you a product that's as solid and fantastic as the rest of the Dreamscarred Press line-up!

Thank you for your support! We'll see you on the Path of War! Very Happy

I was kind of iffy about Tome of Battle back in the 3.5 days, but that was mostly because it seemed to completely outshine the other martial classes at the time. The flavor of it was fantastic though! I can't wait to see what comes of it and how Psionics gets added to the mix (I can certainly see autohypnosis as a good way to factor focus in).

that all depends.

from what i call, the charop boards demonstrated that a regular fighter could be made as effective as the Bo9S classes. the difference was mainly that the Bo9S classes were generally much *easier* to make mobile, and much *easier* to get up to that point.

(or, to put it another way, just because the crazy people in charop could get a fighter to do that well, doesn't mean a normal human being who doesn't know every possible combination of feats and magic items can pull it off so easily).

however, i think the better way to look at it would be this: the fighter and the wizard are *supposed* to be roughly equal. they are not, by a long shot, in 3.5 D&D, and as such, there's a lot of room to go upwards in melee classes before you've *actually* broken anything. it's closer in pathfinder, but i'd still say there's generally room for fighter types to improve before they hit top-tier in terms of power.

Both I and Jeremy are super-excited to have Chris (and sorry for getting the last name wrong mate!) onboard as Lead Developer for this project and we know alot of people are looking for a "Tome of Battle for Pathfinder".

Our intention is to apply our high standards for balance to make sure it functions just as well as our psionics. Right now we are looking at three "major" releases, each one detailing a class and its associated Disciplines, a number of minor releases, each one detailing a new discipline and finally compile it into one big book of awesome.

This material will be "stand alone" in that it will not require psionics, however, we intend to design with psionics in mind. We are striving for interoperability, not interdependability - if that makes it any clearer.

Yes, there is a lot of psionics love in this guy here since the days of a certain magic-blasted desert world full of the stuff. Psionics have only gotten better and better and Psionics Unleashed/Expanded has definitely gone above and beyond. I personally cannot wait to get a copy of Ultimate Psionics!

That being said, there will definitely be lots of psionics love and I hope to see more martial material in the future as well. I'll definitely need the help of diligent playtesters to make this happen by reporting their findings and discussing it.

As excited as I am about this, one of the great things about Pathfinder was it allowed one to continue to make use of their 3.0/3.5 D&D products with some minor tweaking. It was, and has been, a pillar of their success.

So my question is, will this book be made to work with Tome of Battle with the same fashion of tweaking? I still use Tome of Battle, but I don't want to be contradicted between using Tome of Battle or Path of War. I would like them not to be a close mirror of each other (although that would be great if they were) but I want to comfortably allow Tome of Battle to be used along with Path of War in my games.

What can you folks at Dreamscarred say about that?
